Setting up a geofence on a job
Add the site address to a job so clock-ins are checked against the job site.
What the geofence does
Every job has a site address and a boundary around it. When a worker clocks in, SiteLedger checks their position and stores it with the time entry. That way the hours on your payroll are hours you can tie back to a location.
Location is used only while the app is in use. SiteLedger never tracks a worker in the background, and it does not follow anyone between punches.
Add the site address to a job
The address on the job record is what a clock-in is checked against. Fill it in when you create the job so the boundary is live before the crew arrives.
- Click Jobs in the sidebar, then click New job.
- Fill in the job name and customer under Job details.
- Under Site, enter the street address, city, state, and ZIP.
- Click Create job.
For a job that already exists, open it from the Jobs list and click Edit job. Changing the address moves the boundary from that point on; entries already recorded keep the location they were captured with.
Choosing the boundary size
The site boundary is a radius around the address. It defaults to 100 metres and can be set per job. Big commercial sites, long driveways, and street parking all need a wider radius than a single-family remodel.
- Set it wide enough to cover the whole working area, not just the front door.
- Include where the crew actually parks, or you will get flagged punches every morning.
- Tighten it on small residential lots so a neighbouring street does not count as on site.
What the crew sees at clock-in
When a worker taps Clock in, the app asks for their location first and shows that it is checking. Once the position comes back, the punch is saved against the job with the coordinates attached.
If a worker has location turned off, SiteLedger tells them the punch will not be geofence-verified and that a foreman may need to approve it manually. The punch is still recorded.
Punches outside the boundary
Out-of-range and manual entries are flagged for you rather than quietly accepted. They surface in the approval queue with the reason attached, so you can approve the ones you know about and ask about the rest.
