Clocking in from the field
Start and end a shift on the phone, how the geofence works, and what to do if you forgot to punch in.
Clocking in
- Open the app and go to the time clock.
- Pick the job you are working today.
- Tap Clock in.
The screen switches to a running timer with the job name and the time you started. On the web the same screen is under Time Clock, and you click instead of tap.
Only jobs that are still open show in the list, and only the ones you are assigned to. If the job you are standing on is not there, ask your foreman to assign you to it.
Geofence and location
Every job has a site radius based on its address. When you arrive, SiteLedger can clock you in automatically and records the location with the entry, so the hours are tied to a verified site.
Location is used only while the app is in use, never in the background. If location is off, the punch still records — it just is not geofence-verified, and your foreman may need to approve it manually.
Clocking out
- Open the time clock.
- Tap Clock out.
The shift drops into this week list with the hours totalled. If you drive to a second site, clock out of the first job before you clock in on the next one, so the hours land on the right job.
If you forgot, or the phone died
You can add the shift by hand. Pick the job, enter the start and end times, and choose a reason — phone died on site, forgot to clock in, worked outside the geofence, no signal, or correcting an error.
Do it the same day if you can. Hours you reconstruct three days later are the ones that end up wrong, and they are the ones that hold up the whole payroll run.
Manual entries have no geofence record, so they are flagged for approval and the reason you gave is shown to whoever approves them. Keep it accurate.
